Hackathon collaborations challenges

Hackathons gather us to innovate and achieve rapid solutions we might not otherwise.

Also companies get innovation and brand enhancement while they simplify hiring by evaluating candidates for specific tasks.

But team collaboration and communication is challenging in the short time when we are merely focus on deadline and results.

The big scale and speed of these events make it harder for mentors to take care of group satisfaction.

Recruiters focus on the hard skills but its a great opportunity to measure soft skills.

For unspoken feelings

During an interview with hackathon participants about their experiences working in teams, they mentioned that they sometimes had to suppress their feelings during the event in order to avoid time-consuming processes or conflicts. They prioritized the ultimate goal, but later realized that addressing their feelings could have improved the outcome.

HMW

How might we facilitate feedback collection in the shortest time possible, and use the data to improve the experience of all participants and ultimately create a more successful hackathon?

The should be gathered  multiple times a day, in less than five minutes

Best times for feedback sessions are food and coffee breaks  as they are symbols of endings and beginnings.

For each stage of the hackathon, mentors select a different package of questions for participants to answer to obtain the most useful data.

The feedback should address all aspects of emotions, from personal to teamwork and project, and group members.

While insights are boosted by tips and mentor guidance, the primary goal is to encourage users to initiate discussions about their group performance.

This data empowers mentors to monitor participants' emotional states during the event and after specific activities, helping them detect declining interest or engagement within groups and offer guidance and support if needed.

Furthermore, this data is a valuable resource for recruiters, aiding in the evaluation of teams and individuals post-event and facilitating improvements for future events.
